Things are (finally) beginning to stir at Washington Capitals headquarters, as players slowly begin to return from their summer vacations. The Capitals first preseason is less than one month away. Here’s the latest odds and ends from the Capitals’ universe.

Back To School! – Informal workouts are already underway at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Friday included instruction from Capitals skating coach Wendy Marco. On hand for today’s lesson were Hendrix Lapierre, Lars Eller, Garnet Hathaway, Joe Snively, Alex Alexeyev, Peter Laviolette, jr. and Sam Anas.

Tom Wilson has been back in town for a few days. He of course is rehabbing after his knee surgery and will miss the start of the season, but it’s good to see his smiling face back in Arlington.

T.J. Oshie – Osh held a personal skate earlier this week and posed for a photo with his daughter Leni and son Campbell. 😁😁😁

The Oshie family also headed out for dinner earlier this week to work on their food-tossing skills. 😁

Dmitry Orlov signaled the pending conclusion of his off-season in a post to his Instagram account on Thursday. He made the typical post advertising the company that loaned him a car for the summer, as many out-of-town players tend to do. Orlov said he is expected to return in early September.

John Carlson  – And finally, Capitals defenseman John Carlson got in a little clothes shopping earlier this week. For me, it’s the whole ensemble, crocs, backwards hat and dress jacket, that makes this a winning look. 😁

FARM REPORT

The Four Nations tournament got underway in Finland on Thursday. Washington Capitals forward prospect Ludwig Persson and Team Sweden took their opening game against Czechia, 5-4. Persson began the tournament on the top line, but was held off the scoresheet. We will have a full report coming at the conclusion of the tournament.

Persson was dropped to the 4th line for Game 2.
