Men’s Ice Hockey Picked 2nd in ECAC Hockey Preseason Poll; Coronato, Laferriere, Thrun on All-League Team

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior defenseman Henry Thrun, junior forward Alex Laferriere, and sophomore forward Matthew Coronato were named to the Preseason All-EAC Hockey Team by the league’s coaches, the conference announced today (Sept. 21). Harvard was picked to finish second in league play, receiving four first place votes.
Thrun, a Second Team AHCA All-American, led all ECAC Hockey defensemen in per game scoring (.91 points per game), finishing the year with 32 points (seven goals, 25 assists) in 35 games. A team captain entering the 2022-23 season, Thrun was also a First Team All-Ivy and Second Team All-ECAC Hockey selection. He was one of the team’s best players down the stretch, helping the Crimson finish the year on a 12-4-2 run. During those 18 games, Thrun recorded 18 points (four goals, 14 assists), and led the team with a plus-14 rating.
The ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year in 2021-22, Laferriere was tied for first among all ECAC Hockey skaters with 12 goals in league play and led all ECAC Hockey rookies with 21 points (12 goals, nine assists). Laferriere was also a Third Team All-ECAC Hockey and ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team honoree last year. He was one of Harvard’s most consistent scorer, finishing fourth on the team in scoring with 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists).
Selected to the U.S. World Junior Team this summer, Coronato was one of the top rookie skaters in all of college hockey last season, recording 36 points (18 goals, 18 assists) in 34 games. He led all NCAA first-years with 1.06 points per contest. An ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team selection, Coronato was also named Ivy League Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Ivy League. He scored Harvard’s biggest goal of the season, the game-winner in overtime to win the 2022 ECAC Hockey Championship, 3-2, over Quinnipiac in Lake Placid.
Harvard returns four of its top five scorers, four of its top five defensemen (games played), and starting goaltender Mitchell Gibson (18-10-1, 2.17 GAA, .918 Save %). from a 2021-22 team that finished 21-11-3 (14-6-2 ECAC Hockey), earning an NCAA Tournament bid and winning the program’s 11th Whitelaw Cup as ECAC Hockey Tournament champions.
