Washington Capitals forward prospect Oskar Magnusson has had busy summer of hockey in 2022. He participated in Capitals development camp in mid-July, scoring in the camp’s scrimmage on the final day.

Magnusson then played for Sweden’s U20 team in the Covid-delayed 2022 World Junior Championship in early August. For the tournament, he recorded a goal and an assist in seven games played.

Magnusson returned to AIK in the HockeyAllsvenskan (second tier) league in Sweden in late August, where things began to quiet down for him.

He began training camp on the top line but as camp progressed he fell further and further down the lineup, ultimately starting the season opener on Friday on the fourth line for AIK.

However, Magnusson would score a key, late go-ahead goal in the third period to give AIK a brief 5-4 lead. It was a filthy snipe.

Magnusson had a goal and an assist. AIK would win their opener 6-5 in extra time.

Magnusson, 20, a 5’-10” left-handed center/winger was selected by the Capitals in the seventh round (#211 overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He remains unsigned by the Capitals. He will need a good 2022-23 season in order to be considered for Hershey next fall, but could play in the SHL, if he doesn’t make the jump sooner. He’s off to a good start.
