Capitals Beat Blue Jackets, 4-3 (OT), In Preseason Finale

The Washington Capitals beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-3 (OT), at Capital One Arena on Saturday to finish the preseason 4-1-1. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper played the whole game, making 36 saves.

1-1, 10:37: Right-wing Patrik Laine shifted forward in the slot after getting a stretch pass from the defensive zone by center Boone Jenner and ripped one under the blocker of Kuemper.

2-1 CBJ, 14:58 (PPG): Right-wing Yegor Chinakov ripped a shot under the stick of Fehervary in front of him and past the blocker of Kuemper from the right circle.

2-2, 19:47 (PPG): Ovechkin blasted a slap shot through the arm of Merzlikins from above the left dot after Carlson slowed down Kuznetsov’s cross-ice feed in the slot.

Other notable stats: The Blue Jackets (one opportunity) and Capitals (two) each scored on the power-play. Columbus also won 67% of the faceoffs.
