TROY, N.Y. – Senior Amanda Rampado stopped 31 shots, including all 22 she faced through two periods of play, but Mercyhurst College tallied twice in the third period to defeat the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s hockey team 2-0 in a non-league game at Houston Field House. The Lakers improve to 4-3-0, while the Engineers are now 0-5-0. The two teams play again on Saturday afternoon (2pm).

The visitors took advantage of third power play of the game early in the third period when Sara Boucher scored at the 5:23 mark. She was set up by Lilane Perreault and Kylee Mahoney. It was the sixth shot with the extra skater, including two on that advantage.

RPI, which also had six power play shots on goal, stayed within one until 1:22 remained when Makayla Javier scored unassisted into an empty net.

Rampado allowed just one goal on 32 shots in 58:51, while Jada Brenon made 21 saves on the other end.
