CAMBRIDGE, Mass – The No. 15/14 Harvard women’s hockey team (0-1-0, 0-1-0 ECAC) returns to the ice this Friday when it will take on the Dartmouth Big Green (0-0-0, 0-0-0 ECAC) in its first Ivy League contest of the 2022-23 season. The Crimson is coming off a loss to the No. 7/7 Quinnipiac Bobcats last weekend that saw the debuts of four first-years and the first career points of two sophomore defenders.
Harvard holds an active 11-game winning streak against Dartmouth and leads the all-time series with the Big Green, 53-43-3.
WHAT TO KNOW
Context of the Contest
The No. 15/14 Harvard Crimson returns to the Bright-Landry Hockey Center this weekend to face off against the Dartmouth Big Green.The Crimson is coming off a 5-2 opening night loss to the Quinnipiac Bobcats and hopes to get into the win column Friday night against the Big Green. Led by senior captains Anne Bloomer, Kristin Della Rovere and Kyra Willoughby, Harvard hopes to continue the program’s active 11-game winning streak against Dartmouth.
- Harvard has outscored Dartmouth 41-9 over the 11-game streak that dates back to 2015-16.
- In her 28 seasons at the helm, Coach Stone is 39-24-2 against Dartmouth and has not lost to the Big Green at home since the 2011-12 season.
- This will the first Ivy League matchup of the season for the Crimson.
- This will be the first time the Dartmouth Big Green will step onto the ice for a game in 2022-23.
Scouting Dartmouth
Dartmouth head coach, Liz Keady Norton will look to improve upon her team’s 9-19-1 record a season ago, the most wins for the program since 2014-15.
- Junior Tiffany Hill and Senior Currie Putrah both paced the team with 14 points a season ago and figure to be key pieces on the offense once again in 2022-23.
- Maggie Emerson, a sophomore goaltender from Belmont, Mass., returns to her home state and will likely lead her team’s effort between the pipes.
- Last season, Emerson played in 23 games, recording a 3.24 GAA and a .894 save percetange. She started both games against the Crimson last season, allowing four and eight goals, respectively.
100 Games for Bloomer
Senior Captain, Anne Bloomer, will become just the second active player to reach 100 games when she steps on the ice to take on the Big Green. Bloomer is currently second to her linemate, Kristin Della Rovere, in games played (103 games to 99 games).
Picking up Where They Left Off
Harvard captains Anne Bloomer and Kristin Della-Rovere both scored goals in the team’s season opener against Quinnipiac. Bloomer led the team in goals a season ago with 20, while Della Rovere finsihed the year with 15. Bloomer also picked up the primary assist on the Della Rovere tally.
Stopping the Puck
Sophomore goaltender, Alex Pellicci, made 47 saves in the loss to Quinnipiac, the most by a Crimson netminder since Lindsay Reed stopped 52 shots against the No. 2/2 Wisconsin Badgers in 2019. It was only the fourth start in Pellicci’s young career.
Taking One for the Team
Senior defender, Kyra Willoughby, blocked a team-high five shots against the Bobcats, a career high for the blueliner. Rose O’Connor also blocked three shots in a 22-block night for the Crimson. Willoughby led the team in blocks a season ago with 35.
Winges Starts Strong
Sophomore Eleanor Winges started the season strong with a pair of assists in just her fourth game in the Crimson and White. Winges notched helpers on both Crimson goals including the primary assist on the team’s second goal. The two points were a career high for Winges and were also the first in her Harvard Hockey career.
Keepin’ it clean
Neither Harvard or Quinnipiac recorded a penalty in the contest last weekend, which is the first time both Harvard and its opponent has kept the sheet clean in a game since at least the 2008-09 season.
UP NEXT
Harvard will continue it’s homestand next weekend for it’s first ECAC series against the Yale Bulldogs and the Brown Bears. The tilt with Yale will take place Friday afternoon at 3 pm while the battle with Brown will occur Saturday at 3 pm. Both contest can be streamed live on ESPN+ or internationally on Stretch Internet.
