UPDATE: Russell Wilson Out with Hamstring Injury

0

UPDATE:

NFL Week 7 – According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Denver Broncos will sit quarterback Russell Wilson on Sunday with a knee injury. Per Schefter’s report, Wilson wanted to play “and did everything he could to play,” but ultimately head coach Nathaniel Hackett elected to rest Wilson so he can heal from injury.

Wilson was considered day-to-day prior to the decision and was a limited participant in each day of practice this week.

Denver is set to start Brett Rypien against the New York Jets this Sunday, who already shared starting reps with Wilson throughout this past week. Rypien has one career start, which was also against the New York Jets in 2020.

While Rypien and the Broncos won the matchup, he finished the game going 19 for 31 through the air for 242 yards, a pair of touchdowns, and three interceptions. The Broncos finished with an offensive passing DVOA of -41.5% in the 37-28 win. Rypien has only had two pass attempts (and zero completions) since appearing in that game.

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson was limited in practice for a second straight day, officially being labeled with a hamstring injury on the team’s injury report.

According to a report from ESPN, backup quarterback Brett Rypien has taken a significant portion of starting quarterback reps over the past two days. While head coach Nathaniel Hackett did not dive into specifics on how reps were split, he added “We want to be sure we’re getting everybody ready to go.”

Wilson, who currently ranks 20th in DYAR among quarterbacks and is on pace for the worst DVOA of his career, has dealt with several injuries this season. On top of this new hamstring injury suffered during Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Wilson was also diagnosed with a partially torn lat following Week 4.

“I’m feeling better everyday, day by day,” said Wilson in a press conference on Wednesday. “Obviously, it happened Monday night, but I heal quick. I don’t know if it’s Wolverine blood or what.”
