AMESBURY, Mass. – Freshman Lane Hutson of the Boston University men’s ice hockey team was chosen as Hockey East Defender of the Month, the league announced on Wednesday.

Hutson has been outstanding through the first seven games of his Terrier career. He leads all Hockey East defenders in points per game at 1.14 and is second on the Terriers in goals (3), assists (5) and points (8). Hutson has also blocked 11 shots this season and has been a dynamic player in all three zones.

The reigning Hockey East Rookie of the Week was the hero in the Terriers’ 2-1 overtime win over UMass Lowell on Saturday night at Agganis. He evened the score with 2:09 remaining in regulation and then notched the winner 2:29 into the extra session to secure an extra point in the Hockey East standings. It was his first multi-goal game as a Terrier and his third multi-point game of the year.

Hutson began his collegiate career by collecting three assists in the Terriers’ season-opening 8-2 win over Bentley on Oct. 1. He also notched a goal and an assist in a 5-2 triumph over UConn on Oct. 22.

A Terrier has claimed the last two Hockey East Defender of the Month awards, as Domenick Fensore secured that recognition for his play last February. At least one Terrier has now earned a monthly honor from the league in each of the last five months the league has awarded them.

BU will return to action on Nov. 11 when the Terriers begin a home-and-home series with No. 5 UMass in Amherst.
