The Details

  • Less than five minutes into the contest (15:36), Saint Anselm got the scoring started after Turner corralled a miss from Popick to sneak the puck past Zukow.
  • Stonehill would have plenty of chances to even the game at one with all seven of their first-period shots being on target but Kelley stopped each one of them and gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead heading into the second.
  • Later in the second with around five minutes left (5:41), Stonehill was called for a penalty and while Saint Anselm was on the powerplay, Walkom helped even the score at one on a short-handed goal. After the Hawks turned the puck over in the Skyhawks zone, Kenmore took the loose puck and skated up the left side and found Walkom on her right, and tapped the puck over as Walkom beat an out-of-position Kelley.
  • As Stonehill continued on the penalty kill, Saint Anselm tried to set up their offense in their zone and after the puck was misplayed, Walkom stole the puck and pushed on net and flipped in a back-handed shot and gave the Skyhawks their first lead of the game at 2-1. Both of Walkom’s goals on Friday were short-handed scores.
  • With the period winding down, Turner netted her second goal on a wrap-around shot with just 2:45 left in the second.
  • As the third got underway, the Purple and White pulled ahead again (3-2) when Sonntag won the face-off in Saint Anselm’s right circle and pushed the puck back to Petford. At the top of the circle, Petford got the puck and riffled off a one-timer for the 3-2 Stonehill lead.
  • Nearly a minute later, the Hawks evened the game at three when Popick sent the puck across the ice to Porazinski who then put her shot past Zukow’s top right side.
  • Neither side found the back of the net after Prazinkski’s goal and in overtime. Sydney Russell had a good look early in extra time but saw her shot turned away from Kelley. With just eight seconds left, Popick collected the puck from near the top of the circle and then made a move to get Zukow out of place and net the game-winner.
  • Overall on the day, Zukow finished with 40 saves and it is the second time this year she has posted 40 or more saves (prev. Oct. 21 at Brown-44).
