Saturday night was a very good night for two of the Capitals goaltending prospects: Clay Stevenson of the South Carolina Stingrays and Mitchell Gibson of Harvard University. Stevenson made his professional hockey debut in the Stingrays’ 4-2 win over the Atlanta Gladiators. Gibson posted a shutout in Harvard’s 4-0 win over Yale.
Clay Stevenson
Stevenson signed his entry-level contract with the Caps after completing his 2021-22 season with Dartmouth. He participated in the Capitals’ development, rookie, and training camps before injuring his hand. He underwent hand surgery on October 1, rehabbed the injury in Hershey beginning on October 15, and finally, the Capitals lent him to the Stingrays on October 31.

Stevenson was strong in his debut. He stopped 38 of 40 shots he faced for a .950 save percentage and was named the First Star of the Game.
Mitchell Gibson
The Harvard Crimson beat the Yale Bulldogs on Saturday by a score of 4-0. In this game, Gibson made 10 saves, with six of those saves occurring during the third period when Harvard had to kill off three Yale powerplays.
Gibson, 23, is now 2-0 for the season while Harvard is 4-0. He has stopped 27 of 29 shots he’s faced on the season for a .931 save percentage (12th in the NCAA) and a 1.00 goals against average, which in best in the NCAA.
