After tempers began to flare following a hit by Washington Capitals forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel on Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Cal Foote in the second period of their 5-1 victory on Friday night, the two clubs’ frustrations with one another boiled over late in the third period.
With just under six minutes left in the game, a cross-check by Tampa Bay’s Ross Colton on Capitals defenseman and alternate captain John Carlson sent the two teams (and former Southeast Division rivals) into a line brawl.

The Capitals and Lightning finished the night with a combined 79 Penalty Minutes (PIM), and will meet again on Sunday at Amalie Arena, where there will be some hard feelings left between the two teams.
Anthony Mantha, who scored the Capitals’ first goal, finished the night with a Gordie Howe hat trick (Goal, Assist, and Fight).
