MSU hockey jumps to No. 13 in USCHO poll after earning fourth sweep of season

Michigan State hockey is on the rise again in the USCHO poll, jumping up three spots from last week to No. 13. MSU also moved up to No. 7 in this latest Men’s Division I PairWise Rankings.

Over the holiday weekend, the Spartans traveled to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami, leaving with its fourth sweep of the season and a 11-4-1 record overall. 

MSU defeated Miami 5-3 on Friday night during which junior forward Jeremy Davidson picked up four points – his highest of the season. The Spartans then proceeded to shutout the Red Hawks 4-0 on Saturday thanks to 39 saves by graduate transfer goaltender Dylan St. Cyr and a natural hat trick from freshman forward Karsen Dorwart

After two-straight road series, the Spartans return home to Munn Ice Arena this weekend to take on No. 4 Minnesota in a battle for first place in the Big Ten. Minnesota (11-5, 6-2 Big Ten) dropped two spots from last week after splitting its latest series with Arizona State. 

MSU and Minnesota are joined by four other Big Ten teams in the top 20 this week. 

Michigan remains at No. 5, after picking up a tie and win versus No. 9 Harvard over the weekend. Penn State moved up one spot to No. 6 after sweeping Alaska. Ohio State fell to No. 17 after splitting its series with Long Island University. Notre Dame now sits at No. 20, dropping one spot from the previous poll.
