Women’s Ice Hockey: Cadets Soar Over Elmira, Take Third in East-West Classic

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Competing in their sixth game in the last ten days, the fifth ranked Norwich University Women’s Ice Hockey team ended the semester on a high note with a resounding 6-0 victory over Elmira Sunday afternoon in the East-West Hockey Classic Consolation game.
 
 The Cadets struck early and often beginning with junior Melianne Reynolds (Sherbrooke, Que.) potting her first goal of the season. Reynolds’s counterpart on the wing, Taylor Girouard (Burlington, Mass.), was credited with an assist, then would go on to score a goal of her own four and a half minutes later.
 
The Norwich charge continued in the second period with a goal six minutes in by freshman Olivia Boyer (Saint Paul, Minn.), on which fellow freshman Rylie McIntyre (Brunswick, Maine) tallied the first of her three assists. With five and a half minutes remaining Reynolds scored her second of the game. In the third, Boyer also notched her second and Ingrid Holstad-Berge (Stavanger, Norway) got on the board as well.
 
The 12th Annual East-West Hockey Classic presented by Northfield Savings Bank was a showcase involving four of the top eight women’s ice hockey programs in the country. In the championship game the #4 Plattsburgh State Cardinals defeated the #3 Adrian Bulldogs 1-0. 

“On behalf of our Norwich athletics I want to thank Northfield Savjngs Bank for their sponsorship of the best tournament in Division III women’s hockey.” Said Norwich University Director of Athletics Ed Hockenbury. “We saw some incredible hockey action at Kreitzberg the past 2 days and we are so fortunate to have such a generous partner in bringing this great event to Norwich.” 

 

The Cadets and Soaring Eagles will battle again to open up the new year. The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) rivals are set for a rematch at 6 PM on Jan. 6.
