Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson was hit in the head by a slapshot in the third period the team’s game against the Winnipeg Jets. He left the ice under his own power after lying on the ice for a few moments.
On the same night that teammate Alex Ovechkin tied Gordie Howe for second all-time in Goals Scored in NHL history, Carlson was struck by a slapshot by former teammate Brenden Dillon with not even two minutes gone by in the third frame of play.

Carlson had skated 16:12 prior to exiting the game, with two shots on net and was bleeding heavily following the hit, but skated to the locker room under his own power, trailed by Capitals Head Trainer Jason Serbus. Dillon played for the Caps from 2019-2021, before being traded to the Jets in exchange for two draft picks.
