Huskies Lose to Northeastern at Frozen Fenway

Boston Mass. –  The UConn Huskies fell to Northeastern at Frozen Fenway, by a final score of 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.  Northeastern’s Devon Levi made 29 saves in the victory while Matthew Wood was the lone goal scorer for UConn. 

With the loss, UConn falls to 13-6-3 on the season and 8-5-2 in Hockey East Action. With the win, Devon Levi improved to 9-8-3 on the season. 

UConn had a chance to get on the board first but a shot by freshman Jack Percival rang off the inside of the post and bounced outside of the crease. Northeastern was able to open the scoring 10 minutes into the start of the game as Aidan McDonough was left alone on a breakaway. Northeastern didn’t stop there as they would net their second goal of the period to head into the period break with a two-goal lead. 

Neither team was able to generate much offense in the second period as both netminders stood strong and prevented any goals. Freshman Arsenii Sergeev made nine saves in the second period while Devon Levi made seven. With neither team able to score in the period Northeastern entered the final period with a two-goal lead. 

UConn cut the Northeastern lead to one in the third period, as freshman Matthew Wood fought for a loose puck and scored on the rebound shot. Shortly after, Northeastern responded once again giving them a two-goal lead. UConn looked to cut the Northeastern lead to one following a goal by Hudson Schandor, however, after a review the referees determined there was contact made with the netminder and ruled a no goal due to goaltender interference. From there it was all Northeastern as they would score one more to seal the victory and take home the 4-1 win.

These two teams won’t have to wait long for a rematch as they will face off next weekend in Storrs Connecticut for the opening game at the Toscano Family Ice Forum.
