The Lindenwood women’s hockey team (2-20-0, 2-6-0 CHA) fell by one goal for the second-consecutive day to Mercyhurst (13-11-0, 5-1-0 CHA) this time by a score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon from Centene Community Ice Center.

GAME OVERVIEW

Mercyhurst took an early lead, finding the back of the net at the 2:15 mark of the opening period. The period continued with that same score until late when the Lakers doubled their lead, 2-0 at 15:50. Less than a minute later, Lindenwood responded. Rachel Goff put home the rebound of a Morgan Neitzke shot, which made the score 2-1 with less than four minutes to play in the opening period. Chloe Corbin also picked up a helper on the goal, which would be all the scoring after one period.

The strong offensive play by both teams continued in the middle frame, as each team combined for 24 shots on goal. The Lakers regained the two-goal advantage at the 13:15 mark, going up 3-1 with a powerplay tally. Once again, the Lions were quick to respond as Neitzke found Goff who fired one past the Mercyhurst netminder for her second score of the day at 15:38, moving the score to 3-2. Teagan Heaslip was also credited with an assist on the score. The Lakers would hold the one-goal lead headed into the third period.

Lindenwood searched for the equalizer in the third period, coming close multiple times. Goff hit the post less than five minutes in, followed by Molly Henderson doing the same just before the midway point of the period. The Lions pulled their goalie late, but the Lakers held on for the 3-2 victory.
