With captain Alex Ovechkin out of the Washington Capitals’ lineup due to a personal family matter, and Aliaksei Protas attending to the birth of his first child, Herndon, Virginia native Joe Snively was recalled from the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears and inserted into the lineup against the Carolina Hurricanes.

With the Caps down 2-1 to the visiting ‘Canes, Snively notched his first goal of the 2022-23 regular season in the second period, tying the game at 2-2 apiece; Trevor van Riemsdyk recorded the assist on the player.

Snively, who was waived to Hershey earlier this season after sitting as a healthy scratch for most of the season in Washington, recorded his second point of the night with the goal, having assisted on T.J. Oshie’s first period goal. His first goal of the season also marked his second multi-point game, his first coming just over a year ago on February 10, 2022.

The first Virginia native to suit up for the Caps, Snively recorded seven points (4G, 3A) in 12 Games Played for the Capitals last season before an injury put an end to his season. In Hershey, Snively recorded five goals and eight points in 13 games with the Bears.
