First Weekend Of Free Agency: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions

0

Happy Friday and I hope yinz are doing well.

It has been a busy first week of the 2023 NFL year. The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t been quiet about their business with several external free agents signed, internal free agents re-signed and lost, along with the typical wave of draft coverage that presents itself this time of you. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed the film rooms, news, and podcasts breaking it all down. We’ve got plenty more in store for you all.

Hope you all have a great weekend and that you enjoyed following our continued coverage. I thank you for visiting the site and we appreciate all of your great feedback. As always, we have five Friday night questions for you to answer.

Peace and love, peace and love!

1 – Who has been your favorite external free agent so far? CB Patrick Peterson, OG Nate Herbig, ILB Cole Holcomb, or ILB Elandon Roberts?

2 – What is the biggest position of need for the Steelers right now?

3 – If you had to make a guess, what position will Pittsburgh select at #17?

4 – Did the Jets make the right move by trading for/wanting to trade for QB Aaron Rodgers?

5 – Will the Steelers re-sign Terrell Edmunds before the end of the month?

Recap of Fourth 2023 Offseason Weekend Friday Night 5 Questions

Question 1: Steelers Depot respondents named six Pro Day schools they are most interested in seeing the Steelers attend. Georgia led the way with five votes followed by Ohio State with three. Penn State, Maryland, Clemson, and USC were mentioned. Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan attended both Clemson and Georgia this week. The Steelers had dinner with Clemson LB Trenton Simpson and Edge Myles Murphy. The other schools mentioned have pro Days scheduled next week.

Question 2: The Steelers reached agreements with several external free agents during the legal tampering period. CB Patrick Peterson announced first, followed by OL Nate Herbig. Then LB Cole Holcomb. Depot respondents split with eight saying the Steelers would sign an external free agent by Wednesday evening and seven saying no.

Question 3: Less than two hours after the legal tampering period began, reports emerged that CB Cam Sutton had agreed to a three-year deal with the Detroit Lions. Most folks believed the Steelers would re-sign Sutton due to his versatility and contributions to the defense. Now he is a former Steeler and just another “nameless gray face” when playing Pittsburgh.

Question 4: Twelve of 15 respondents said TE Zach Gentry would re-sign with the Steelers prior to the start of the new league year (4PM Wednesday 15 March). All seven of the offensive players scheduled to be free agents got at least one vote. Miles Boykin got the next most votes with eight. However, as of the end of the league day at 4PM none of these players had signed.

Question 5: A large 13 of 15 majority believe all player contracts should not be fully guaranteed. Most did say that a year or more of fully guaranteed money warranted depending on the skill of the individual player. But generally, folks saw this as a recipe to tie up team rosters. Sort of like if an actor like Amber Heard received a fully guaranteed contract to deliver three Aquaman movies. The production company would be out a lot of money.

Here are the consensus responses of Steelers Depot respondents compared to the correct answers:
