The ice hockey season gets underway for two Greater Fall River high school teams.
Diman and Somerset Berkley will lace up the skates and compete against the best in southeastern Massachusetts.
Both the Bengals and Raiders punched their tickets to the postseason last year. Each will look to go further than the first round.
Diman added Durfee and Westport to form a co-op team in 2022-23.

Diman/Durfee/Westport Bengals
Head coach: Marc O’Connor
Last season’s record: 9-9
Diman will look to take its game to the next level this season under head coach Marc O’Connor, beginning with tonight’s season opener at home against Apponequet. The Bengals were eliminated in the Division III preliminary round last season by Stoughton.
Leading the way for O’Connor’s group is senior captain and defenseman Connor Santos. Senior goalie and captain Cam Mattos is back for another season in net. Mattos was a Herald News second team All-Scholastic.Junior Bryce Medeiros takes faceoffs at the center position while junior Jacob Almeida will see action at the wing spot.
O’Connor has four athletes from Durfee ready to lend a hand this season. Junior Jared Martins is versatile and can play defenseman and center. Junior Brady Sullivan and sophomore Landen Freitas will get some ice time at the wing position. Junior Evan Camara will help out on the defensive end.
Westport freshman Dylan Aguiar will see action at the JV level and varsity.

Somerset Berkley Raiders
Head coach: Kevin Snyder
Last season’s record: 15-3-3
The Raiders enjoyed a productive campaign last season before falling in the Division II Round of 32 game against Wakefield. Head coach Kevin Snyder will look for his group to make a deeper run in the state tournament in 2022-23, beginning tonight against Mount Hope.
Leading the way for SBR is senior captain and center Davis Sullivan, who led the team in scoring last season with 15 goals, 14 assists and 29 points. Sullivan was a first team Herald News All-Scholastic.
Junior goalie Brandon Silva, a Herald News All-Scholastic, had a 1.66 goals against average last season and compiled a save percentage of .946. He finished the year with a 14-4-2 record and five shutouts.
Junior center Luke Gauvin was a Herald News second team All-Scholastic and senior Matt Costa will be the leader on the defensive end.
