NFL Offseason – The Seattle Seahawks and Geno Smith are finalizing a three-year deal worth up to $105 million, as first reported by The Score’s Jordan Schultz

Smith earned the opportunity to start for the Seahawks after Seattle traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. He beat out Drew Lock in training camp and proceeded to have a career season. Starting more than 10 games for the first time since 2014, Smith posted career highs in passing yards and touchdowns while finishing top-ten among quarterbacks in DYAR and leading the league in CPOE (per RBSDM). He earned his first career Pro Bowl nomination and received the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year award at the NFL Honors in February.

One area of concern from Smith’s 2022 performance: the outlier performance was heavily front-loaded. Football Outsiders’ Aaron Schatz noted that Smith’s DVOA and net yards per play both dropped as the season went on. Smith posted a 33.9% passing DVOA and a 7.58 net yard per pass attempt through the first five weeks of the season. In Weeks 6 through 13, Smith posted a 9.6% DVOA and a 6.66 net yard per pass attempt. Those numbers fell down to minus-17.3% and 5.14 through the final five weeks of the season.

According to Schultz, Smith will have the opportunity to earn up to $52 million in the first year. According to OverTheCap, Smith has earned $17.49 million through his first 10 seasons in the NFL.
