It’s a busy day for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ pre-draft visit tracker hamster wheel. After reported upcoming visits with CBs Emmanuel Forbes and Tyrique Stevenson, the PPG’s Gerry Dulac tweeted Tuesday that the Steelers recently visited with Ole Miss WR Jonathan Mingo.

At the NFL Combine, Mingo weighed in at 6016, 220 and ran a 4.46. Last year, he caught 51 passes for 816 yards and caught five touchdowns. For his career, he caught 112 passes for 1,758 yards and 12 scores. He profiles as someone who can play inside or outside and has SEC pedigree.

Mingo is the first known wide receiver to be brought in for a visit. In fact, he is the first skill player we know who has been brought in. We now know one-third — 10 of a possible 30 — of the non-local visits the team has had or has scheduled.

In our pre-draft profile on Mingo, Ross McCorkle concluded:

“He works best in space, having a solid sense of where the soft spot is going to be in zone. His release off the snap is good and his long speed is solid, so if he grows his route tree and tightens up some of his technique in and out of his breaks he has some NFL starter upside. In the short term, he could carve out a niche on an NFL team as their physical slot receiver in the right situation. Good run blocking is not a trait you often pair with wide receiver play, but what a nice thing it is to see when it’s there. He did not play much special teams in college, but his athletic profile and willingness to block would be an asset on a few special teams units. My pro comparison for him is JuJu Smith-Schuster.”

According to Mock Draft Database, Mingo is viewed as a mid-Day Three pick who could hear his name in Round 4 or 5.
